Pam Pawl working at her loom

Weaving has been a part of my life for over 30 years. I produce hand- dyed, hand woven throws, wraps and scarves which I sell through my studio, galleries and juried craft shows.

I enjoy imagining the structure of my next project, drafting the design and making calculations before I approach my loom. Being a painter at heart, I respect the technical part of weaving but use dyeing to provide spontaneity to my craft. When I finally weave, the rhythm of the beater and lifting of threads is my meditation, The power from my body, structure in my head, materials from my hands and color from my heart all come together to build order from chaos, fabric from miles of yarns, a sense a joy from hard work.

I have a BS in Textile Design from Philadelphia College of Textiles where I worked as a technical associate in yarn, CAD and Handweaving for over 20 years. I also taught weave design there from 1995- 2002. Since then I've taught in the Fibers Department at University of the Arts, Penland School of Crafts, and at regional conferences throughout the US. I currenty teach weaving, spinning and dyeing through my studio at Sherman Mills and through the Philadelphia Guild of HandWeavers.
