Join Philadelphia artist and educator Carol Wisker in her studio for an exciting exploration of the art of putting things together, using collage, assemblage and construction. This course has been formatted to meet once a month but also encourages participants to work at home and return with some finished projects!
In this information-packed workshop series, you will learn about, and be inspired by, the working methods of some of the world's most fascinating artists who have made collage a serious part of theirart making, including: Max Ernst, Kurt Schwitters, Joseph Cornell, Meret Oppenheim, Betye Saar, Varujan Boghosian and others.
Saturday, October 13: LEARN the BASICS
Working on flat, two-dimensional surfaces and exploring the possibilities of cutting, tearing, peeling, tracing, rubbing and creating juxtapositions of incongruous images, textures and shapes.
Papers, glues, wax and substrates will be discussed.
Saturday, November 10: BREAK OUT of the BOX
Adding objects to the mix and considering space around the edges, over the top and from the inside out! Paint, fabrics, plastic, glass and found objects are just some of the materials we will explore.
Saturday, December 8: THE THIRD DIMENSION
Experiment with altering and/or combining everyday objects that you have collected to create a sculptural assemblage.
Carol Wisker, MA, Art Education, University of the Arts, is a mixed media painter and award winning assemblage artist who has been teaching art for 20 years in a variety of settings including the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the State Correctional Institution at Frackville, Pennsylvania.
You will receive a materials list upon registration. Many supplies will be available. Class size is limited to six participants. Register early to assure a space.
